Cars 2 Hits Theaters and Kmart Gets Exclusive Toys

In case you were like me and initially didn't think Cars was worth seeing- you were wrong. It took me 4 years to finally watch Cars. Hopefully I will see it within the first 4 days of release this time. In case you don't know the premise- Cars 2 focuses on the main star Lightning McQueen traveling the world for a 3 race circuit. Along the way Mater is mistaken to be a spy and joins the spy ranks. Add in some evil cars, guns, more racers and you have the perfect mix.

If you have walked a toy aisle recently, you have seen Cars 2 toys. If anything like the 1st movie- the toys will dry up once the new movie releases and thousands of kids ask mom & dad to buy them their favorite characters. If you are looking for new toys, buy soon and buy often. As an added bonus Kmart gets some new rubber tire racers and a hydraulic Ramone.

Mattycollector's Mad Matty Mondays

In a likely effort to sell through old stock Matty gave us this news today-

Toy Fans,
Don’t like Mondays? Forget about it – I’m about to chase away those blues with my new Mad Matty Monday sale! What exactly is Mad Matty Monday? It’s a special sale that will happen on various Mondays throughout the year, whenever the mood strikes me. You never know what will be offered but it’s guaranteed to be insanely awesome, that’s why it’s called Mad Matty Monday!
The first one is June 27th and I’ve created three different product bundles. Each one will cost $40 plus shipping. No hints on what’s inside… they’re called Mystery Packs for a reason! I will guarantee, however, that each one has three items inside and the value of the pack definitely exceeds the $40 price. You’ll want to get there early because quantities on most of the items are extremely low.
There are no limits – you can buy as many of each one as you want and all packs purchased in a single transaction will ship together for even bigger savings. Here are the packs you’ll be able to choose from:
Mystery Pack #1: MOTUC Assortment
Mystery Pack #2: DCU Assortment
Mystery Pack #3: Ghostbusters™ Assortment
The sale starts Monday, June 27th at 9 a.m. PT (12 p.m. ET) and goes through July 11th at 8 a.m. PT, unless all items are sold out before then. Want reminders? Like all sales, I post them on Facebook, Twitter and in our Fan Forums. I’ll send an email reminder, too, so click here to register.
See you on the 27th – it’s gonna be crazy good!
P.S. Because of limitations on commercial shipments, this sale is only open to US customers.

Ask Matty Questions for 6/15

Matty responds with their Mid-June Q&A-

1- Was there a reason behind the decision to pack out Marlena at SDCC is as the Queen and as Pilot on Mattycollector?
To give fans at SDCC something special for making it out to the show. She will also have a unique bio for each pack out.

2- Is the SDCC  Stay Puft planned to be the definitive version, or might we see it in another form/scale?
Yes, this is our definitive version. We do not have plans for another version at a larger scale at this time. This was as big as we could get him while keeping the price under $100.00.

3- Does the 4” scale Green Lantern line allow you to make non-movie or comic style figures?
We certainly could do other styles in this line, but for 2011 we are concentrating on the movie style.

4- Previously you commented The Walmart GL Action League Exclusives will be 3 packs, can you detail each packs breakdown?
Here is a list of all the packs:
Guy Gardner / Hal Jordan / John Stewart (Comic Series)
Tomar-Re / Hal Jordan / Sinestro (Comic Series)
White Lantern Sinestro / Max Charge Hal Jordan / Kilowog (Comic Series)
Sinestro / Hal Jordan / Green Man (Movie Series)
Krona / Hal Jordan / Kilowog (Movie Series)
Abin Sur / Hal Jordan / Tomar-Re (Movie Series)

5- Is the long term MOTUC plan to complete factions like the Horde and Snakemen?
That would certainly be great. But since it will take a few years we certainly can’t confirm anything. But it is good to have goals and this is one of them.

Diamond Select to produce Alice toys from the Video Game

After eleven years, the characters from the highly popular computer game “American McGee’s Alice” are back, and this time, they’re not just on your computer. A sequel game, “Alice: Madness Returns,” is due out this month and will be available on the PC, PS3 and XBox 360… and also as action figures!

Diamond Select Toys has entered into an agreement with Electronic Arts to manufacture a line of Select action figures based on the game’s designs. The figures will be in a consistent 7-inch scale, and will come packaged in collector packaging with environmental display bases, similar to Diamond Select’s current Marvel Select and Universal Select toy lines. The line will appear in retail stores in early 2012.
Additionally, Alice will be rendered as a 9-inch PVC statue as part of DST’s Femme Fatales series, which spotlights strong female characters from comic books (”Tarot,” “Darkchylde”), mythology (Medusa), history (Anne Bonny) and fairy tales (Little Red Riding Hood). The fairy-tale version of Alice has already been featured in the line, but the upcoming video-game-inspired statue will depict American McGee’s Alice as she appears in “Madness Returns.”
The line will kick off at the Comic-Con International in San Diego, which will be held July 21-24 at the San Diego Convention Center. There, DST will be selling the first collectible figure based on the new game, an Alice version of one of their popular Minimates mini-figures. This will be the only Minimate made for the game.

DC Batman Legacy Line

Mattel is soon to release the previewed Batman Legacy wave that was first shown at ToyFair in February. The line in schedule to include a Modern Age Batman, Golden Age Joker and Silver Age Mr Freeze. Check out some loose pictures and carded as well. The packaging is bright and comic art inspired.

Iron Man Hammer Drone Concept

The latest line of Iron Man figures has been at online retailers for some time. The Concept Series Hammer Drone represents the concept of what we saw on-screen in Iron Man 2. This drone comes with attachable whips and saws. It is unclear how much distribution these will see on retailer shelves. Also the rest of the wave is a mix of concept and Iron Man repaints.

Ask Matty Questions - 6/1

The Mattycollector Team has Delivered is Answers to Your Questions- Check them out below!!

I have found Action League wave 3 and it is great. Will this line reflect the popular comic/movie characters of the time, like why it has been  heavy with Green Lantern characters since the movie is coming out?
Not officially or anything, but yes, 2011 is a big Green Lantern year which is why you see characters from his world showing up in a lot of our lines (6”, Retro Action, Action League etc…)

The SDCC GB Marshmallow Man is great- can you provide some more details on the material it is made out of? Have we seen it in other Mattel products?
We have asked design to provide feedback on this. As soon as we have a clear answer we will post it.

Is the Black Suited Joker still coming out?
Yes. We will reveal all the details at SDCC!
Is the SDCC Back to the Future Exclusive in the same scale as the current Hotwheels BTTF car? When will we know what is in the Box?
You will need to ask this to the folks at HotWheelsCollector.com. We only handle action figures over at Mattycollector.com (although as a courtesy, we will sell this item after the show).
Was there ever a plan to try and include the suction feature with Leech, like the vintage figure?
No, we did not look into adding an action feature, but that is why we added the net that has suction cups on it!

Don't forget to send questions for the next round!!
