Upadated Mattel Ghostbusters Release Schedule

May 19, 2011

Ghostbusters™ Fans,
I’ve heard your questions about when figures will be available, and thought it might be helpful to give you an updated schedule. Because the team wanted to do right by our Winston Zeddemore with Slime Blower figure, it caused schedules to slip a bit. But never fear… there will still definitely be seven subscription figures (including the Club-exclusive figure) released throughout 2011. At press time, here’s the schedule through October:
June 15
Ghostbusters 6" Winston Zeddemore w/ Slime Blower
   (Club Ecto-1 figure)
July 15
Ghostbusters 2 Movie Masters® Mega Figures 2-Pack
with Winston Zeddemore & Peter Venkman
July 20 at SDCC
Ghostbusters SDCC 22" Stay Puft Figure
August 1 Post-SDCC Sale
Ghostbusters 6" Egon Spengler w/Lab Coat (Club Ecto-1 Fig)
Ghostbusters SDCC 22" Stay Puft Figure
Ghostbusters 6" Ray Stantz with Slime Blower (Club Ecto-1 Fig)
Ghostbusters Movie Masters® 12" Ray Stantz
Something you’ve been waiting for that I can’t announce yet!
Just like what happened with our original Zeddemore sale date, various logistical issues can cause things to get switched up so the schedule isn’t final until, well, it’s final. We’ll do our best to keep you updated and, as always, appreciate our loyal Ghostbusters fans!

It seems that shortly after this was posted, it was removed from Mattycollector.com- not sure if the schedule has changed or if they felt they gave away to much

Ask Matty Questions - 5/16

Thanks to the Matty Crew we are back with some questions for the 2nd half of May. Remember to email or post comments if you have questions for future sessions!!

1) There seems to be great variation in shipping for subscriptions compared to day of sales. You were using UPS for US Subscription and MattyDay purchase, now it seems that UPS is for Subscription and Newgistics for day of purchases that take much longer. Why do the shipping vendors vary?
Because we are constantly working to deliver as many options as possible for shipping while still honoring our legal agreement for subscribers who signed up for a full year.

 2) Action League figures are great!  Any timeline/schedule for future waves being released?
Retail figures do not have release dates. New figures will hit as soon as current figures sell through.         *wave 3 has been out for at least 2 weeks now
3) Will There Be DCUC Crime Champions or Secret society of super villains action figure gift sets anytime soon?
Sorry, we can’t comment on unannounced figures.
4) Could we see any Elseworlds style crossover for DCUC And MOTUC  2 packs?
Nothing in the pipe right now, but certainly a cool idea!

5) The SDCC Marlena is great, why the decision for 2 packaging variants? Are the figures any different?
To reward fans who make it out to SDCC with something special (now that our items are also available on Mattycollector.com)

New Release Tuesday - 5/17

This week check out a Marvel Animated release of Thor, just before the movie. Also sci-fi fans can buy the 1st season of First Wave, on Amazon.ca.

Thundercats Tygra Hard Hero Statue

I recently picked up the latest Thundercats statue from Hard Hero. Tygra is the latest installment. Similar in sculpt to the Bigbadtoystore exclusive Bengali. Tygra is posed mid action with his whip, perched upon a stone base that matches the previous statues. Tygra has great detailing in the face that greatly resembles the 80's animation. Check out my pics below.

New Release Tuesday - 5/10

This week checkout the 80's toon release of BraveStarr. The under-rated show features a futuristic cowboy with animal powers take on villains.

Kotobukiya's Boba Fett 1/10 ArtFX Statue

Kotobukiya puts out some great snap together vinyl licensed toys. Star Wars has been going on for many years, initially in a larger scale and now a 1/10 scale. These come as a snap together model kit, many with interchangeable parts. ToyFair 2011 showed us Vader, Fett and Stormtroopers. I picked my Boba Fett up from one of my favorite online retailers bigbadtoystore.com
Boba Fett is as featured in Empire on Cloud City. He comes un-assembled in a plastic tray. The base is magnetic to his feet to allow perfect standing. He comes with 2 sets of arm- one for pointing his blaster, the other carrying it. He has great detail, pivoting head, pistol on his hip and wookie braids and bendable antennae. The paint is good with no major defects I saw.

Mattycollector Updates

From Toyguru

Hey all,

With so much going on in term of announcements and movie toys I wanted to try and hit a bunch of FAQs floating around.

1: Swamp Thing is fully articulated. He is not a statue. The articulation is under his skin. It is a new approach we are testing out and so far it is amazing. This is not rubber like Clayface, it is an all new endoskeletal articulation system or EAS. He stands 9" tall and includes a sculpted base (and if you buy him at SDCC - the bonus Un-Men!

2: We'll get a revised Ghostbuster release calendar posted ASAP.

3: The reason we switched to the new shipping service was 100% to save the cost of shipping. Due to demand, we're going to look into bringing back UPS and additional services each at a different cost based on that service. But you will have options!

4: If you are in the South Bay area of Southern California, stop by The Comic Bug now through Free Comic Day. We'll have as many of our SDCC exclusives as we can on display there (still working out which ones can be loaned out and not slow down development!).

5: There is no fifth thing.

6: The MOTU 30th just keeps getting bigger. What was going to be 2 giant huge announcements has now grown to FOUR giant huge announcements. Things are happening we never planned but we're not ones to say no to opportunity!
Look for all the news at our Mattypalooza panel at SDCC!

7: Voltron will also be huge at the show. We will be revealing our new collector line available exclusively here on Mattycollector.com starting in 2012. (and yes a subscription will be available).

8: All of the SDCC items will be available for pre-sale as well as available at the post SDCC sale on Mattycollector.com (including the Polly, Barbie and Hot Wheels items). Prices may be different (very slightly) between the show and online due to taxes in California. Swamp Thing will not include the Un-Men on Mattycollector.com and Marlena will be packed out as a Space Explorer with a unique bio on Mattycollector.com.

9: GREEN LANTERN toy are here! Movie Masters! Basic Figures! Battle Smashers! Galactic Scale! Role Play! And coming soon to Mattycollector.com, the ultimate 12" Green Lantern featuring wireless sound and light and the voice of Ryan Reynolds! But check out your local retailer for all the great GL product hitting stores today!

10: The Polly Pocket POP SDCC set is a one-off for the show (similar to the DC themed Polly set last year) to bring Polly to SDCC. It is not the start of a new line, but hey, if this thing takes off, you never know! It has generated a lot of buzz.

I think that about wraps it up. More coming down the pipe but don't be alarmed if we're a little mum on announcements until SDCC. We've just got that much good stuff!

Updates from Matty on Mattycollector and Leech

Toyguru gave us some updates via the Mattycollector Forums-

So I finally got the first shot of Leech in my hands (that is the first time we have a sample that looks like the toy fully painted for us to review). Now that I've seen him (and not the Horsemen non movable sculpt) I wanted to share some details since I know there have been a lot of questions.

First off, he does not have suction cup hands. They are made of plastic like everything else. He does though come with a red Horde net that does have working suction cups as an homage to the vintage toy's action feature. The hands are also jointed like Bow, with ball joints for more movement.

The only reused parts are the shoulders, upper arms, legs and ankles. Everything else is new and he does stand a bit taller and is a bit wider compared to other figures.

The "armor" is part of the sculpt just like the vintage figure.

One of my favorite parts of the sculpt are the "plates" on the back where the pump was on the vintage toy. That and the tiny hole inside the mouth are awesome touches from the Horsemen.

The shoulder pad and Horde arm band are one removable piece (I think in an ask Matty we reported this as non remobable, but it is). They "connect" where they naturally touch. It works really well.

In addition to the net he also comes with his vintage crossbow which can clip onto his wrist just like the vintage figure.

One last note on the head. I know there has been a lot of back and forth about whether Leech needed two heads (closed mouth, and open vintage toy suction cup look). I'll confess I was 100% in the "needs another head" camp but was overruled by design and the Horsemen. And now that I see him I totally get it.

The head is just perfect. It is this amalgam of everything about Leech. It really is what "the vintage toy would look like under today's standards of articulation and detail" (which was our cut down creative direction for the brand). The boys in Jersey really nailed it. Leech is AWESOME! (can you tell he was a favorite of mine as a child...I digress)

We have some really amazing figures left to reveal for 2011 and man, when we get to 2012, it is going to be insane. Our huge giant announcement pile just grew to FOUR huge giant announcements. The 30th was always going to be huge but things have started to come together in ways that were never part of the plan. But hey, when opportunity knocks we're not saying no.

Stay tuned. SDCC is only a few short months away.

Ask Matty Questions - 5/2

Take a look below for some Q&A from various lines by Mattel and Mattycollector.com.
Be sure to submit questions via the comment feature below the post or use the send an email option on the right side. Thanks Matty!!

What is the status in regards to movie masters figures of the Chris Reeve Superman and Michael Keaton Batman films? When the Dark Knight figures came out there was talk that this line would encompass all of DC/WB films.
We have never announced a Michael Keaton figure and there is no figure in development.

Do you have a definite date for the post SDCC Mattycollector sales- that way those who can not attend can plan to be online?
Much like the past two years, this will likely be the Monday after SDCC.
Will the upcoming Voltron line be at Mattycollector only or will there be retail toys as well?
You will just need to wait for SDCC to get the full scoop!
Is there a “do not sell before” shelf date for the Young Justice figures?
No. But YJ will go on sale around late summer.

Leech looks great- Did the red net accessory with suction cups get created by the 4HM to replace and mirror the 80’s suction cup feature?

New Release Tuesday - 5/3

This week check out Seth Rogen's take on the Green Hornet. If Marvel is more your style, grab Superhero Squad Volume 4.

Mattel Hot Wheels Back to the Future Delorean

Many put a stigma on Hot Wheels collectors and their obsession with these little cars. You cant beat the price compared to the going rates of action figures now. Occasionally they put out a licensed car, recently with the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 and assorted Batmobiles. Now there is a spin off the Delorean that was released recently to feature add-ons to make the Back to the Future Delorean. Mattel also appears to be planning a SDCC BTTF exclusive. Check out the recent release Hot Wheels BTTF car.
